The helicopter intends to land at an altitude of 3,300 m but because the wind jerks at a speed of 30 m/s, they could not be done, the spokesman said.

Tatyana Yukhmanova, representative of the local authorities, said rescuers will try to reach the group of climbers again tomorrow if the weather conditions allow.

Klyuchevskaya Sopka is the highest volcano out of more than 160 volcanoes covered with snow on Russia's Kamchatka peninsula.

The rescue agency warned the mountain, made up of volcanic rock mounds mixed with snow and ice, especially dangerous for climbers due to its height and the risk of lava eruption.
