Taijie, former general secretary of the Wuhan Party Committee, was arrested on charges of corruption and abuse of power.

Thai Kiet, 53, was sacked in February. Provincial disciplinary officials said at the time that he had "taken advantage of his position to profit for others and illegally obtained large amounts of money and property". Thailand is also accused of illegally allocating government money to private companies, according to a statement issued by the Supreme People's Procuracy of China.

Last month, some of the top leaders in Hubei province, the Covid-19 epidemic, were dismissed as they drew criticism for how to deal with the epidemic. Tuong Sieu Luong, Hubei Provincial Party Secretary was replaced by Shanghai Mayor Ung Dung. Wang Zhonglin, Secretary of Jinan Party Committee, replaced Ma Guofeng as Party Secretary of Wuhan Party Committee.

Two of Hubei's most senior health officials were also dismissed, a top official of the Red Cross in Wuhan was dismissed for being irresponsible.

Covid-19 originated in Wuhan, Hubei in December 2019, appeared in 120 countries and territories, leaving more than 120,000 infected, more than 4,300 dead and nearly 67,000 recovered.
