Malaysia did not allow Abominable to be screened after the publisher refused to cut scenes with a "cow's tongue line".

"Universal decided not to cut the scene at the request of the Malaysian censorship board and therefore will not be able to release the film in Malaysia," United International Pictures Malaysia said in an email sent to AFP on October 20.

Earlier, Malaysian film censorship leader Mohamad Zamberi Abdul Aziz said the film could only be shown in the country if the controversial map was deleted.

Abominable (Vietnamese title: Everest: Little Snowman) is about a Chinese girl named Yi and two friends who meet a snowman. The party helps the creature reunite with its family at Mount Everest. Abominable is a co-production of DreamWorks Animation and Chinese studio Pearl Studio.

In the film there are scenes of the map at Yi's house, supposedly drawing the "cow's tongue line", the unreasonable claim by China unilaterally out of sovereignty over almost the entire area of the South China Sea. This movie was discontinued in Vietnam from October 13.

Philippine Foreign Minister Teodoro Locsin on October 16 wrote on Twitter that the scene with a "cow's tongue line" should be cut and urged people to boycott the film with the production company.
