The United States, the world's largest epidemic zone, recorded 6,918,706 cases and 203,073 deaths, an increase of 49,332 and 948 cases compared to a day earlier.

The epidemic appears to be improving in the US, when Johns Hopkins University released data last week that the daily deaths per day were lower than the average in late July and early August.

However, experts warn people not to be subjective, especially in the context that schools and businesses are gradually reopening.

During the Senate hearing on September 16, CDC director Robert Redfield said that even if the US has vaccines in November or December, "supplies will be very limited", only available to anti-epidemic workers and groups.

However, Trump said on September 16 that Redfield was "mistaken", saying that at least 100 million doses of the vaccine could be distributed by the end of the year.

India, the world's second largest epidemic region and Asia's largest, reported an additional 92,789 cases and 1,221 deaths, bringing the total number of people infected and dying from Covid-19 to 5,305,475 and 85,625 respectively.

The Indian government said on September 15 that at least 17 members of the country's parliament were positive for nCoV, reflecting the rapid spread of the epidemic.

Brazil, the third largest epidemic region in the world, recorded an additional 762 deaths from Covid-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 135,793.

Brazilian experts say the models show that the country has passed the epidemic peak, but still warn that the situation could suddenly deteriorate if the local government allows the economic reopening too soon, without tightening the measures.

Covid-19 in Brazil inflicts heavy harm on some vulnerable communities, especially those in the impoverished slums and indigenous peoples of the Amazon forest.

Russia, the world's fourth-largest epidemic region, reported an additional 134 deaths, bringing the total number of deaths to 19,195.

The Russian Ministry of Health announced last week that the first batch of Sputnik V vaccines had been put into circulation.

The Russian Direct Investment Fund announced on September 16 that it would provide 100 million potential doses of vaccine to Indian pharmaceutical company Dr Reddy's Laboratories, bringing the total number of doses that Russia will provide abroad to more than 200 million -

South Africa, the world's eighth largest epidemic region and the country most severely affected by the pandemic in Africa, recorded 657,627 cases and 15,857 deaths, up 2,055 and 85 respectively.

Travel and business restrictions have gradually loosened in the country since June, but they are still close to avoid foreign imports.

Under the new measure, indoor events are capped at 250 people.

Cases rose again in Spain, the largest epidemic region in Europe.

The Madrid region imposed a partial blockade on nearly one million people.

New cases in France also increased again after the period of Covid-19 was contained.

The capital government urged residents to avoid gathering more than 10 people, in public as well as in private homes.
