Consulate Cao arrived in Yekaterinburg last weekend after taking a flight from the Russian capital Moscow. He is expected to meet local officials, but is required to stay at his home in order to prevent the risk of the spread of acute pneumonia due to a new strain of corona virus (nCoV).

"He is in good condition," Kharlov said when asked about the health of the Chinese consulate when he started quarantining.

The outbreak of acute pneumonia caused by nCoV in Wuhan City, the capital of Hubei Province, from the beginning of December 2019, spread to 31 provinces in China and 26 countries and territories around the world. As of Feb. 10, the disease has killed 910 people and more than 40,000 cases of nCoV, mainly in China's Hubei province. Russia also recorded two positive cases for nCoV.

Russian railway company announced to stop passenger trains to China from the night of 2/2 until further notice. Officials also announced stopping all direct flights to China from 21:00 on the same day, except for flights operated by Russian national airline Aeroflot.

Russia also closed the land border of 4,300 km with China, and stopped issuing visas to Chinese citizens in an effort to prevent the outbreak.
