The fire of the engine bay on the aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov caused minor damage and did not affect the overhaul schedule, according to two anonymous sources.

"Preliminary data shows the Admiral Kuznetsov aircraft carrier was not severely damaged. Only the crew compartment was burned down by the flames and that did not affect the maintenance and upgrading progress of this battleship. ", an anonymous source in the Russian shipbuilding industry said on 17/12.

"The fire area is located near the spare generator compartment with tanks of 140 tons of diesel and 30 tons of engine oil. Fortunately, they did not catch fire," another source said.

President of the United Russia Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) Alexei Rakhmanov said the special committee will publish the results of the incident investigation within the next two weeks. The overhaul of the ship is still ongoing, although welding operations were only conducted after obtaining permission from the Russian navy.

Aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov suffered an engine compartment fire during maintenance at the port of Murmansk on 12/12. The fire spread to an area of 600 square meters and left two people dead and 14 injured. Firefighters put out the fire the next morning.

Preliminary investigation showed that the incident originated from the negligence, failure to comply with safety rules of welding technicians.
