The incident seems to have stemmed from the dusty condition of the floating dock, causing water to flood the storage tanks and sink it. The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said there were no casualties in the incident because both armaments were removed from the Russian navy for years.

The Russian Defense Ministry has not commented on this information.

PD-16 floating battery was put into use in 1941, serving the maintenance and repair of Soviet warships. It can accommodate surface ships and submarines with displacement of up to 5,000 tons and has been stationed in the Sevastopol port since World War II. The Russian Navy assessed the irreparable dock and removed it in the 2010s.

B-380 is a diesel-electric submarine under Project 641B "Som", commissioned by the Soviet Union in 1982. The ship is 91 meters long, 9 meters wide and has a displacement of 3,800 tons when diving. The Russian Navy attempted to modernize the B-380 in the early 2000s, but this project was abandoned. The ship was named Svyatoi Kniaz Georgy in 2008, then disassembled and put on the floating dock PD-16 to disintegrate scrap in 2009.
