The US Department of Transportation says it will give away more than 96 million masks to passengers traveling on airplanes and public transport to prevent Covid-19.

86.8 million masks will be for air passengers and the remaining 9.6 million will be distributed to 458 federal transit stations and the Amtrak train system, US Department of Transportation on June 12 for

"The US government is committed to protecting the people and reopening the economy. The distribution of masks will help foster public confidence as we begin to resume normal life," said Secretary of Transportation.

Aviation and other transportation activities in the US have dropped sharply due to the impact of Covid-19.

Most airlines and transportation systems in the US require passengers to wear masks, in the context of the complicated Covid-19 epidemic.

The US remains the largest epidemic region in the world, with more than 2.1 million people infected and nearly 117,000 people died from Covid-19.

President Trump also said last week that the United States "took a big step forward" when it reopened and believed the economy would recover faster if states and localities stopped the blockade.
