The plane carrying former President Morales landed in Paraguay after Peru, Chile and Brazil banned the aircraft from flying over airspace.

Former Bolivian President Evo Morales on November 11 boarded a Mexican Air Force plane to Mexico, where he was granted political asylum. The aircraft is expected to land in Peru to refuel before continuing the journey.

However, the plane had to change schedules, landing at Silvio Pettirossi International Airport near Paraguay's capital Asuncion instead of Peru. Paraguay media reported the decision to land was made after air traffic control stations in Peru, Chile and Brazil banned aircraft from carrying Morales over their airspace.

The Paraguayan army said the aircraft refueled, then continued its journey to Mexico on November 12.

Bolivian top officials who have resigned may travel with Morales to Mexico on the same flight. Former Mexican Deputy Foreign Minister Maximiliano Zuniga tweeted a photo of Morales with many people, including former Vice President Alvaro Garcia Linera and former Senate President Adriana Salvatierra. A group of at least 6 people also appeared in the photo taken at Chimore International Airport in Bolivia.

Meanwhile, Mexican officials did not mention any other officials granted asylum in the country. Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard on November 11 refused to disclose the names of Bolivian officials and parliamentarians seeking asylum on the grounds that they could be in danger.

Morales, who served as Bolivian president for nearly 14 years, resigned on November 10 after the military and police no longer supported him. Before leaving for Mexico, Morales announced he would soon return "energetically and energetically".

Morales's resignation has led to violence in the capital La Paz. The Bolivian army said it would assist the police to stabilize the situation. Several countries, including Argentina, Venezuela, Cuba and Mexico, describe the development in Bolivia as a coup.
