The National Guard was deployed to assist the police as hundreds of protesters gathered near the White House.

Members of the US National Guard arrived in the capital on May 30 after Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser announced that he needed support from the force to suppress the protests related to the man's death.

An image posted by a resident on Twitter shows the National Guards on Massachusetts Avenue in Washington, DC around 19:00.

The move came after hundreds of people gathered at the White House to protest the government and expressed support for Floyd for the second day in a row.

Meanwhile, many others marched along the streets, surrounding the Washington police headquarters, shouting "No justice, no peace".

The White House on May 29 was blockaded at the behest of US Secret Service, but the state was removed the same evening as protesters marched to other parts of Washington.

"I can't breathe" protests starting in Minneapolis are now spreading across the United States, forcing many cities to impose curfews and deploy National Guard to ensure security.

Chauvin has been charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter for carelessness, but many are unsatisfied with the charge.
