People Daily, a mouthpiece for the Chinese Communist Party, tweeted yesterday that Dr. Liu Zhi Ming died of coronitis, but later deleted the post. A Hubei provincial health official later said the doctor was "fighting for life".

Dr. Liu, 51, is believed to have contracted the virus during treatment for patients. He graduated from Medical Academy, Wuhan University in 1991, specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of brain injury, brain tumor, cerebrovascular and spinal cord, especially neurosurgery. Before his death, he was a doctor, doctor, neurosurgeon, and director of Wuchang Hospital.

The inconsistency surrounding Dr. Liu's condition is similar to that of Ly Van Luong's earlier this month. Chinese state media initially reported that Dr. Li had died, but Wuhan Central Hospital rejected it, saying he was in critical condition. A few hours later, the hospital confirmed the doctor had died.

Wuchang is one of the leading hospitals of Wuhan City. Wuchang Hospital also announced on February 15 that a 59-year-old nurse died from a corona virus infection.

The outbreak of corona pneumonia (Covid-19), which began in Wuhan, capital of Hubei province since December 2019, has been reported in 27 countries and territories. There are 73,332 cases worldwide, 1,873 deaths and 12,712 people cured. A senior Chinese health official said last week that 1,716 health workers had been infected with the corona virus, of which six died.

The Chinese military yesterday sent 1,200 medical doctors to Wuhan to deal with the corona virus, bringing the total number of military medical doctors in hospitals to 4,000, many of whom have experienced SARS and Ebola outbreaks.

A spokesman for China's National Health Commission said on Feb. 16 that the figures showed the disease was under control. However, World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has warned that "it is impossible to predict which direction this disease will go".
