The statement was issued by Xi in the context of recent U.S. and Chinese officials arguing and blaming each other for the origin of nCoV. After the US Secretary of State called the nCoV the "Wuhan virus", a senior Chinese official countered it, accusing the US military of bringing the virus to Wuhan, though it could not provide evidence. US President Donald Trump later also called this "the Chinese virus".

CCTV said during a phone conversation with President Trump today, President Xi had asserted that China "wants to continue sharing all information and experiences with the US".

Xi said US-China relations are at a "critical time", adding that cooperation will help win-win and be the "right choice". He said several provinces, cities and companies in China also provided medical supplies and supported the US against Covid-19.

Trump also expressed optimism about the phone call, saying he had a good discussion with President Xi and had a "very detailed" discussion about Covid-19. "China has a lot of experience and extensive knowledge about the virus. We are working closely and deeply respecting each other," Trump posted on Twitter.

Covid-19 originated from Wuhan, China in December 2019, up to now, it has appeared in nearly 200 countries and territories around the world. The US currently records more than 85,000 nCoV infections, surpassing China and becoming the largest epidemic region in the world.
