"Security forces came to unload obstacles but were stopped by people and they opened guns," a witness reported on the phone.

An unnamed official of the Aungban Funeral Service confirmed that 8 protesters were killed, of which 7 people died on the spot and one died after being taken to the hospital in the nearby Kalaw town.

The Myanmar Army spokesman has not commented on information, but repeatedly confirms this country's security force only uses force when necessary.
