WHO began naming new NCOV strains in the Greek letters since May. So far 11 strains named this way, including APLHA, Beta, Delta and the latest Lambda.

Earlier, strains are often called by the country name where they first appear.

Kerkhove warns the appearance of new strains capable of dodging the Covid-19 vaccine is a real threat.
