A source said two guys approached the police patrol as if scouting information before detonating. The police force was immediately mobilized to the scene.

Initial information showed that no one was killed in the explosion but the attacker.

Police are opening an investigation into the bombing. Extremists have targeted Tunisia in recent years, killing many people. In 2015, two gunmen attacked the Bardo Museum in Tunis, killing 21 people, mostly European tourists, and about 50 injured. The US embassy, located in a residential area on the outskirts of Tunis, was attacked by crowds in 2012.
