Mr. Jung said the Daegu government hoped to force Tan Thien Dia to be legally responsible and to pay for the quarantine and medical treatment due to Covid-19.

Daegu requested Tan Thien Dia financial compensation of 100 billion won (about 82.3 million USD), equivalent to more than two-thirds of the total budget of 146 billion won in the city used to combat the epidemic.

The Daegu government believes that mass infections among members of the sect have led to a spike in the number of nCoV cases in the city, putting financial pressure and pressure on the health system there.

The Daegu court allowed the city government to temporarily confiscate some properties of the New Heavenly sect and cardinal Lee Man-he, including his savings deposit bonds.

Daegu recorded the first case of nCoV on February 18.

According to the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the city of Daegu reported more than 6,900 nCoV infections and about 61% were confirmed members of Tan Thien Dia.

Covid-19 has appeared in more than 210 countries and territories, making more than 9.1 million people infected, more than 470,000 people dead and more than 4.9 million people have recovered.
