President Biden's office said the paintings were paired to "confirm that differences in opinion are essential for democracy".

"This room was specially set up for the first working day today," said Ashley Williams, deputy director of operations at the Oval Office, while giving a Washington Post reporter a tour of the room before General

The room also features bust of activists Rosa Parks and Eleanor Roosevelt and a horse-rider sculpture made by artist Allan Houser of the Chiricahua tribe.

The bust of the founding father of Benjamin Franklin hung to the left of the Consistency Table to show Biden's appreciation for his scientific pursuit.

The room also has two paintings of the late presidents George Washington and Abraham Lincoln and the bust of the late Senator Daniel Webster, who strongly defended the Northern Union.

The pale yellow curtains under President Donald Trump are replaced with darker yellow curtains, once chosen by President Bill Clinton.

The furniture, including the couch and other small tables, all come from the White House collection, so they look familiar to those who have looked closely at the room.

The flags of the military units once hung by Trump behind the Resilience Table are now gone.

An object removed from the Oval Office is a portrait of former President Andrew Jackson.

But the fact that Trump chose to hang a portrait of Jackson made him face allegations of racism.
