The Israeli government planned a 4-minute cable car ride from west Jerusalem to the Old City in the east, but Palestine opposed it.

Israel expects the cable car to transport about 3,000 tourists and Muslims every hour, while reducing congestion in the overcrowded Jerusalem area.

However, Palestinians say the cable car will be only meters away from the roofs of their homes in East Jerusalem, and will spark controversy over the city's future, which has been at the center of a conflict between Israelis. and Palestine.

"It is an act of violation of the fact that Jerusalem in general and East Jerusalem are part of the occupied territory of Palestine and not of Israel," said Hanan Ashrwai, a Palestinian Liberation Organization official. He declared Palestine against "the flagrant violation of this nature of Jerusalem".

This cable car project will be carried out after the final approval of the Israeli government and is expected to be completed in 2021.

Israel considered all of Jerusalem, including its eastern occupied area during the 1967 Middle East War, as its capital. Palestine, meanwhile, wants to reclaim East Jerusalem as the capital of the state it wants to establish in the future in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
