About 54,000 people in the city of Brindisi, in southern Italy, were evacuated to experts removing the one-meter bomb left after World War II.

This is considered the largest evacuation activity in Italy when more than 60% of Brindisi residents yesterday were asked to leave the "red zone" with a radius of 1.6 km from where the bomb was discovered.

The one-meter-long bomb and containing 40 kg of British-made explosives, apparently dropped on this city in 1941. It was accidentally discovered last month during the repair of a movie theater, the city authorities. street said.

The airport, the train station, two hospitals and a prison in Brindisi also had to close and evacuate. The bomb disposal process is completed after a few hours.

More than 10,000 people in the city of Turin, northern Italy, earlier this month were also evacuated as experts dealt with a 200 kg bomb from World War II. The bomb contained about 65 kg of explosives and was thrown into the area 70 years ago.
