In states that haven't issued a blockade to stop nCoV, many cities and counties have asked people not to leave their homes unless necessary. Nevada, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania have ordered non-essential businesses to shut down, but have yet to order residents. The territory of Puerto Rico imposes restrictions on travel, while Guam only requests the closure of certain businesses.

Restrictions on travel and closure of some businesses are aimed at minimizing public contact with others within 2 m. The orders affect more than 256 million Americans, or about 78% of the population in 30 states and Washington D.C.

Essential and non-essential businesses are defined differently in many parts of the US, but entertainment services are often included in the non-essential list. Some places allow groceries, banks and pharmacies to operate, in other places the restaurant is allowed to operate but only for guests to take away. Most museums and hair shops have to be closed, and localities have different rules about building and selling marijuana.

In some places, orders made at home cause confusion or even conflict. Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves issued an ordinance making gun shops, department stores, and real estate offices an essential business establishment, while county officials ordered these places to be closed.

The United States has recorded more than 163,000 people infected with nCoV, of which more than 3,000 have died and more than 5,500 have recovered. President Donald Trump warned the 30-day "a time of challenge" for the US, but remained optimistic saying "we will win a great victory".

Covid-19 started in China in December 2019. Covid-19 has appeared in 200 countries and territories with more than 780,000 cases of nCoV infection, more than 37,000 deaths and more than 165,000 people have recovered. The US, Italy and Spain are the three countries with the highest number of nCoV cases in the world.
