When plaintiff Bancha Porameekhanaporn came to court with his wife and two lawyers, a dispute broke out between the two parties. Thanin suddenly pulled a pistol and shot at Bancha with two other people with him, according to Thai media.

Bancha and lawyer Wijai Sukharom were taken to hospital but died due to the serious injury. Bancha was a lawyer for former Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra in a lawsuit over her rice subsidy program. Bancha's wife and the other lawyer were injured.

A policeman who was on security duty at the court opened fire on Thanin to make sure he did not do more harm to others. Thanin was seriously injured and did not survive after that.
