Republican Senator Ben Sasse criticized the fact that Trump simultaneously pardoned his allies, considering it a "corrupt" act.

"This is rotten to the core," Nebraska Republican Sen. Ben Sasse said on December 23, referring to President Donald Trump's consecutive amnesty to dozens of people, including his family members.

Senator Sasse added that "criminals like Manafort and Stone" have "blatantly and repeatedly violated the law and harmed the American people".

Sasse was the first Republican senator to openly criticize Trump's amnesty decision, while some Senate Republican officials have also urged the President to avoid sparking an amnesty scandal.

Republican Senator Susan Collins earlier this month advised President Trump to follow the recommendations of the Justice Department's Amnesty Office.

Republican Senator Pat Toomey also advised that the president's pardon rights should be used with caution.

Trump on December 22 began to announce amnesty to 15 people, including Republican allies and former 2016 campaign officials. The US President a day later pardoned him to join Charles Kushner

Trump's amnesty in the final days of his term is a controversial subject in the US.
