US federal judge sentenced to 8 months in prison with Chinese woman Zhang Yujing, 33, for trespassing and lying to officials.

A federal judge in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, November 25, announced a verdict against Zhang, who is from Shanghai. The judge also ordered Zhang to be sent to the immigration agency for deportation after serving his term.

Zhang has been detained since his arrest in March, has served nearly 8 months and will be released from prison next week.

Zhang was arrested on March 30 at the Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, when he identified himself as a club member going to the pool despite not wearing a swimsuit. Zhang later said that she attended a US-China friendship event but it did not exist. She brought two passports from China.

US agents found Zhang carrying four mobile phones, laptops, external hard drives and USB "malware". Zhang's actions raised concerns that she was a spy. However, she was only convicted of trespassing on a resort and lying to federal officials in September.

US President Donald Trump is the owner of Mar-a-Lago, a luxury resort on the Atlantic coast. He often comes here on weekends to play golf and meet friends. He had a private mansion set up in Mar-a-Lago and seemed to be playing golf nearby at the time Zhang tried to break into.

Zhang's incursion caused concern in the wake of a series of Chinese accusations by the United States in recent years over allegations of espionage and theft of trade secrets.
