The inauguration of US President-elect Joe Biden will have the appearance of 5 flags, representing American history and the new president.

The Presidential Inauguration Committee last week announced the theme of Biden's January 20 inauguration as "United States", demonstrating the President-elect's pledge to heal the country.

The five flags, consisting of two Betsy Ross, two 13-star flags and an existing 50-star American flag representing the 50 states, are handcrafted by master tailor Lucille Rodriguez and her team at Flag Company

The inauguration always featured the Betsy Ross flag and the current flag.

The use of the 13-star flag dates back to a year after the Continental Congress (consisting of representatives of 13 North American colonies) drafted and passed the Declaration of Independence in July 1776.

Dixie is responsible for producing hand-embroidered American flags for six presidential inauguration ceremonies, dating back to the George W. Bush era in 2000.

"The American flag is very iconic," said Van de Putte.

As part of the theme "United States of Solidarity", the National Mall National Park will also display the "Field of Flag", consisting of 191,500 American flags and 56 light poles.
