Queen Tunku Azizah said on Twitter that she is the main supplier of sambal belacan sauce to Mr. Lee Kuan Yew's family.

"I have long wanted to reveal a secret to the people of Malaysia that I used to be the main supplier of sambal belacan sauce to the late Singapore Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew and still provide them to his son, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. "Queen Tunku Azizah of Pahang, one of nine states of Malaysia, revealed on Twitter on October 25.

Sambal belecan is a popular spicy sauce in Malaysia, usually made from chili, shrimp sauce and lemon juice, served with rice and noodles.

In mid-2018, the Queen of Malaysia also shared on Instagram her personal letter from Mr. Lee Kuan Yew. In his letter dated July 23, 2009 when he was prime minister's adviser, Lee Kuan Yew praised the 6 boxes of sambal belacan made by the Empress.

"I fed my two children, they ate them all. It was the best spicy sauce we have ever eaten. Can my family receive more? Sorry for bothering but it makes the food taste better." Quang Dieu wrote. Queen Tunku Azizah said the letter was very meaningful and moved her deeply.
