Mrs. Gutierrez replied: "I'm not a doctor, but you can. Come and help them."

Ms. Gutierrez later posted an apology on Twitter, but blamed her husband's political rivals.

The office of the President of Mexico declined to comment on the incident.

President Lopez Obrador is also criticizing because the government did not provide enough cancer medicine for children when reforming the health system earlier this year.

Gutierrez is a fiercely protective husband and is often criticized by critics on social networks.
