When the number of nCoV infections soared, causing many states to stop opening their economies, the Trump administration put more hope into the $ 10 billion vaccine project.

The US federal government has poured US $ 10 billion into "Operation Warp Speed", a joint project with the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), and the Department of Defense to promote development of the nCov vaccine.

Dan Diamond, editor of Politico, said the Trump administration may have to "pay dearly" to pursue this bold goal.

The White House's Covid-19 reaction group had to cut a lot of meetings and consider raising public awareness about Covid-19 as a secondary plan, instead of seeing this as an important goal like many previous crises.

The United States is also forced to trade the resources of all federal health agencies into the vaccine project.

In addition, the fact that Trump put too much hope in the miraculous vaccine shot, while evidence that Covid-19 could last for years, is also considered dangerous.

"There is no guarantee that a particular vaccine will work. And even if it works, there's no guarantee it will suit most people, or whether people will want to get it, or that the virus will not work."

Diamond said that vaccine development is not an easy job, because in fact, many vaccines such as mumps prevention take many years to complete.

Many officials of Operation Warp Speed are very confident in this project.

However, many health experts outside this project believe that federal officials need to speak openly with the public about this issue.

"The White House is constantly looking for miraculous solutions, such as hydroxychloroquine, remdesivir and now vaccines. But they cannot bring about such miraculous effects," said Peter Hotez, virologist and principal of the School of Health.

A number of states in the US have reported soaring new cases last week and have had to halt plans to open the economy, which Texas is seen as a new "Covid-19" hotspot.

Experts called on the Trump administration to focus more on issuing safety guidelines for the community, pointing out that vaccine development might not be completed on time.

The US Senate will have a hearing on Operation Warp Speed on July 2, in which health ministry leaders will update information on the development and production of the nCoV vaccine.

HHS also appreciated the effort of the Operation Warp Speed project and said that the employees are dedicated to this project.

The Operation Warp Speed project was initiated in early April. HHS Minister Alex Azar from the outset suggested that the health ministry should coordinate with the Pentagon in this project.

Many people believe that the vaccine development project is a way for Azar to gain public attention, for political purposes.

Members of the Democratic Party warned that political pressure could affect the scientific research process.

"We know the pandemic will not stop until there is an effective and safe vaccine, widely produced and distributed fairly, free of charge for everyone. That's why we need a delivery plan.

Luciana Borio said that although it may not create the complete vaccine like Trump had promised to launch before the election day, the vaccine development project still provides an important step forward for this field.

However, both vaccines are genetic-based, which worries Borio.

Scientists believe that the vaccines developed by the Trump administration may not be an "alternative" but a "complementary solution" and other coping strategies with nCoV.

Meanwhile, many senior officials like Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, and General Physician Jerome Adams admit that focusing on vaccine production alone is not enough to combat Covid-19.

"Americans may not like a government person like me telling them to 'vaccinate'. They need people who have an influence on where they live and are admired by them," Fauci warned.

Therefore, many experts believe that the government needs to establish a network of propaganda about health messages and treatments before the vaccine is widely distributed.
