Two police officers were shot dead in a house in the city of McAllen, Texas, before the suspect committed suicide.

Two officers, Edelmiro Garza, 45, and Ismael Chavez, 39, arrived at the house in McAllen on 11 July for receiving a call to notify a disturbance.

"What I want to tell people is that police officers never have a chance to suspect a deadly attack on them," police chief Victor Rodriguez said at a press conference the same day.

Rodriguez added that when other police arrived at the scene and asked the suspect to hand over the gun, he shot himself and died.

"These are difficult moments," Rodriguez said.

Rodriguez added that calls have been received in the past few hours and Texas Governor Greg Abbott has also sent prayers to officers and their relatives.

Two officers were shot without a camera on, and Rodriguez said the camera in their car could not return to the shooting because it was parked far from the suspect's house.
