Iraq: Erbil International Airport was hit with rockets, killing one civilian contractor and injuring five people, including one US soldier.

The attack occurred at 9:30 p.m. on February 15 against Erbil International Airport, where the US-led coalition forces are stationed in the capital of the Kurdish autonomous region in northern Iraq, which is also the base.

The Iraqi and Western security sources said at least three rocket cannons were fired at the airport.

Five people were also injured in the attack, including an American soldier.

This is the deadliest attack against US-led forces in Iraq in nearly a year.

The US sent troops into Iraq in 2003 to overthrow President Saddam Hussein, then withdrew completely from Iraq in December 2011 by order of former President Barack Obama, but returned from 2014 to fight ISIS at the request of the government.

US facilities and forces in Iraq were repeatedly attacked with rockets in the past year.
