White House trade adviser Peter Navarro said he had never heard of President Trump asking the Chinese president to work to help him re-elect.

In an interview with CNN's State of Union program, Navarro said the allegations that former US national security adviser John Bolton directed against President Donald Trump were "stupid" because the White House boss was very hard.

"I have never heard of anything like that. I was in the room at the time," he said, referring to a meeting between President Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping in June last year.
