According to Tehan, Beijing cannot join CPTPP until persuading members of the current trade agreements, as well as the conditions of the World Trade Organization (WTO).

CPTPP members want to be confident that joining candidates will fully implement the commitments in the Agreement in a good choice, Tehan said.
