The number of Covid-19 cases in Taiwan is skyrocketing, raising the question of what happened on the island that was praised was typical of this epidemic.

Taiwan on May 14 reported 29 new cases in the community, 180 shifts on May 15, 206 shifts on May 16 and today are 333 cases.

Bloomberg ranked Taiwan in No. 5 on their Covid-19 resilience rankings, based on the number of deaths, cases of infections and vaccination rates.

Last year, the island spent 250 days without recording the infection in any community.

Taiwan so far only records a total of more than 2,000 cases and 12 cases of death for Covid-19.

In mid-April, Taiwan eased the isolation time compulsory to pilots and crews that have not been vaccinated with Covid-19 from 5 days to three.

The Novotel Hotel was later discovered to bring some pilots and flying nests in the way of staying in accommodation with the building with regular guests.

The first cases related to the Novotel outbreak are recorded on April 20, the two pilots of the island's largest airline, China Airlines.

By May 7, the number of cases was recorded as 29, including 11 pilots, a flight attendant, 6 Novotel hotel staff and 11 family members.

Although a building of Novotel Hotel was assigned to be isolation base but they left pilots and flights in another building.

According to Yang Sen Hong, a public health expert in Taiwan, China Airlines and Novotel did not comply with regulations but the actual isolation time that the government prescribed for pilots "too short".

The authorities allow the pilot to be a short-time isolation without asking them to vaccinate, Yang said.

"Novotel for pilots staying in the place where they can integrate with others, this is a problem," he stressed.

After witnessing a sharp increase in number of cases on May 15, the Center of Taiwan epidemiology lifted the warning in Taipei City and Tan Taipei to three levels on a 4-level scale.

Movie theaters, sports centers, libraries and entertainment venues must be closed, while the restaurant can continue to operate if they ensure ways of stretching and holding customer contact details.

Taiwan will raise the alert to the highest level and apply blockade if there are more than 100 new cases per day in a row within two weeks.

Over the weekend, the island people responded quite a positive call at home from officials.

Taiwan has encountered a lot of difficulties in buying vaccines and so far, the vaccination rate is still very low.

"The most important thing is to calm", Jason Wang, director of the Policy Center, Result and Prevention of Stanford University, said.

"If not, Taiwan's ability to test and traces will not be able to keep up with the situation. We can witness the number of cases that continue to increase in the next month or longer, until blockade", Wang Save

From May 14, Taiwan created test stations in affected areas.
