Los Angeles County health officials warn that the number of deaths caused by Covid-19 has risen to a record, when one person dies from a pandemic every 10 minutes.

The number was given by Barbara Ferrer, director of the Los Angeles Public Health Agency, in a statement yesterday, when he warned of the rising number of Covid-19 infections and deaths here.

According to a report dated December 25, the county had about 6,500 people hospitalized for Covid-19, 20% of which were in an intensive care unit (ICU).

"I hope we can find the strength and the courage to take responsibility for each other's health," said Ms Ferrer, asking Southern Californians to abide by the epidemic prevention regulations like staying at home, wearing a mask.

Most of California has imposed an order requiring people to stay at home because the number of ICU beds is less than 15%.

California reported an additional 351 deaths on December 25, the third highest daily increase ever, bringing the total number of deaths to more than 23,600.

"Hospitals are all packed, ICU beds are very few, people are dying," Mr. Ghaly said.

The United States just celebrated Christmas in the wake of more than 18.7 million Covid-19 records, including nearly 330,000 deaths.

The US has ordered 100 million additional doses of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine and the goods are expected to be delivered by July 31, 2021, bringing the total number of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine doses purchased by the country to 200 million, with a contract value of nearly $ 4 billion

By December 23, more than a million Americans had the first shot of the vaccine.
