US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will shorten his trip to East Asia after President Donald Trump is hospitalized for suffering from Covid-19.

Pompeo was departing for Japan today but will not be arriving in Mongolia and South Korea as originally planned, according to a statement from the US State Department.

Pompeo plans to visit all three countries from October 4 to 8.

President Trump announced on October 1 that he and his wife Melania were positive for nCoV, then hospitalized in Maryland for treatment.

In a video address to the Florida Family Policy Council, Pompeo said he was in good health but he canceled plans to appear live at the event as a "precaution".

"Everyone should know that I am fine. I am very well. I have been tested twice in the past two days. I am fine as usual. I still plan to go ahead with my plan to Asia tomorrow."
