South Korea Police confirmed Seoul mayor Park Won-soon committed suicide after missing a day ago.

"We found no signs of murder," the police statement said today.

They added that they came to the conclusion after an autopsy, detailed evidence and interrogation of families and people close to Mr. Park.

Mr. Park was found dead in the forest on Mount Bugak near his home at dawn on July 10.

A camera image showed him leaving his residence in Jongno district, central Seoul, at around 10:44 pm, wearing a black hat, dark jacket, black pants, gray shoes and black bag.

In a suicide note found on his desk at home, Mr. Park wrote: "I'm sorry to all. I thank all those present on my life journey. I always feel guilty.

Mr. Park also asked to be cremated and scattered ashes at his parents' graves.

President Moon Jae-in expressed his "shock" to Mr. Park's sudden death and sent flowers to visit his long-time friend.

Mr. Park's funeral is scheduled to begin on July 13, lasting five days, according to the mayor's rite.
