Trump met with the Republican leader in the McCarthy House of Representatives in Florida when party officials seemed eager to present a united front with the former president.

Former US President Donald Trump met House minority leader Kevin McCarthy at Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach City, Florida on January 28.

"His affinity for President Trump has never been stronger than today and his endorsement is more meaningful than any at any time. President Trump agreed to work with leader McCarthy.

McCarthy, a Trump ally, once supported the former president's claims about election fraud.

However, their relationship seems to return to warmth as the two smile in a photo taken in an ornate room in Mar-a-Lago.

"Today, President Trump pledged to help Republicans elected to the House and Senate by 2022," McCarthy said in a statement, simultaneously attacking Democrats for "impeaching a president.

With Trump being impeached for a second time and the Senate preparing to impeach him, it is not clear how long Trump will retain influence after his term.
