India: Two-year-old Sujith Wilson, trapped in a well for five days, was found dead after rescue workers saw the smell of the corpse rising.

"The body of the two-year-old boy is now in a state of decomposition. We tried our best to rescue him but unfortunately there was a smell coming from the well that he fell down. Now the process of drilling and rescue has been stopped." again, "J Radhakrishnan, director of the Tamil Nadu State Department of Transport, in southern India, told reporters this morning.

Sujith Wilson fell into a 180-meter deep well in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, five days ago, in the presence of her mother. Wilson was initially trapped at a depth of about 8 meters, but his failed attempt to pull him up with a rope caused Sujith to fall to a depth of 27 meters.

Rescuers deployed various measures to save Sujith, such as pumping oxygen into the well and drilling tunnels parallel to the well mouth. However, the mud layer makes it impossible for the rescue force to assess the victim's condition, while the hard rocky terrain makes drilling difficult.

Authorities last night said they would drill for another 12 hours to reach where they were trapped and dig tunnels through wells to rescue. However, the process stopped after they determined that little Sujith had not survived.

The baby's intact body was then taken out of the well and taken for inspection.

When rescue operations began, Tamil Nadu state officials were criticized for accusing him of slow and wrong access. Many people claim 9 hours after the rescue operation began, the National Disaster Rescue Force has just been deployed. Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier said that "every effort" was made to ensure the boy was safe.
