Russian weapons, some of which have not been deployed, including the Poseidon "super torpedo", contained in special submarines, and Zircon supersonic cruise missiles can be deployed on surface ships.

Russian news agencies quoted the Defense Ministry's statement as saying that the Belgorod test, the first submarine capable of carrying Poseidon torpedoes, is underway and testing of new weapons systems is nearing completion.

Putin once said supersonic weapons were the first field in the United States to follow Russia in the history of defense industry.

According to the Russian President, the current US missile defense system is obsolete because supersonic weapons can easily penetrate them.
