Russia has been accused of arresting eight Ukrainian mayor since launching military campaigns in the country in late February.

According to the Ukrainian City Association, Russia is said to have arrested many mayor from cities, villages and residential areas they are controlling in the east and southern Ukraine.

Detailed information about the where the mayors were detained or their condition was not disclosed, but their arrest has led the Ukrainian government to accuse Russia in violating war crimes.

Most recently, Ukrainian officials said Ihor Kolykhaiev, Mayor of Kherson City, was arrested by Russian forces for not cooperating.

According to the Ukrainian City Association, the three mayor was arrested by Russian forces on June 30, including Valiko Kostenko of Veliko Kopaniv, Dmytro Lyakhno from Gornostaiv and Serhii Khrestiv.

The Ukrainian cities continued to call for international organizations to protect local government officials arrested and urged everyone to participate in efforts to help release them, the Association wrote in a statement.

Russia has not yet commented on the above information.
